IEC frame and shaft height lookup
An IEC frame number is the shaft centre height H in millimetres (frame 160 → H = 160 mm), not a complete motor identity. Feet, flange (B3 / B5 / B35), shaft diameter and key still have to match the datasheet. This lookup lists common frames we see on industrial TEFC machines.
About this tool
An IEC frame number is the shaft centre height H in millimetres (frame 160 → H = 160 mm), not a complete motor identity. Feet, flange (B3 / B5 / B35), shaft diameter and key still have to match the datasheet. This lookup lists common frames we see on industrial TEFC machines.
Who this is for
Use it when the installed motor shows frame 132, 160, 180… and you need H before you enquire.

What the numbers mean
- IEC frame number
- On IEC 60072-1, the frame number is the shaft centre height H in millimetres. Frame 160 means H = 160 mm from the foot plane to the shaft axis (B3). It is not the overall height of the fan cowl and it is not a NEMA frame (NEMA uses codes such as 256T).
- H, A, B, C, D, E
- H = centre height. A / B are foot-hole spacings. D is shaft diameter, E is shaft length. A drop-in needs D and the key as well as H. JW will still ask for a datasheet or a photo of the shaft.
- B3 / B5 / B35
- B3 = foot mounted. B5 = flange (no feet, or feet not used). B35 = feet plus flange. Same frame number can be any of the three.
Common IEC frames (H)
| Frame | Shaft height H | Plant note |
|---|---|---|
| 80 | 80 mm | Small auxiliaries; often well under 2 kW. |
| 90 | 90 mm | Small pumps and fans; confirm shaft Ø on the datasheet. |
| 100 | 100 mm | Common light industrial TEFC size. |
| 112 | 112 mm | Pumps, fans, conveyors in the low kW band. |
| 132 | 132 mm | Very common MRO frame; still match shaft and flange. |
| 160 | 160 mm | Workhorse IEC size for general S1 duty. |
| 180 | 180 mm | Larger pumps/fans; check B3 vs B5. |
| 200 | 200 mm | Heavier S1 machines; nameplate kW and poles first. |
| 225 | 225 mm | Upper general-purpose range on many leaflets. |
| 250 | 250 mm | Large TEFC; lifting and foundation matter. |
| 280 | 280 mm | High power; confirm voltage and starting method. |
| 315 | 315 mm | Large industrial; often dual voltage / special shafts. |
| 355 | 355 mm | Heavy machines; treat as engineered, not a bin item. |
