Electric Motor Brands for IEC Industrial Replacement

Industrial “electric motor brands” on a plant floor are almost always IEC metric machines: Siemens, ABB, WEG, SEW, and regional OEMs such as JW. The logo does not set kW or shaft. The nameplate does. JW is an IEC manufacturer—not a source of those brands’ spare parts.

Use this page to see which plate families show up and which JW series is the honest first quote. Open a brand page when you are replacing one installed machine.

How to read “brand”

Logo ≠ motor

Same H can still be the wrong shaft, flange or poles.

IEC class

Most replacements today land on IE3 (YE3) unless the spare must stay IE2.

Geared vs bare

SEW and some Siemens units are gearmotors. Those are not a foot-mounted YE3.

Brands you will see vs JW

Brand on the plateFamilies you often seeJW starting point
Siemens1LE, 1LA, 1LG and similar IEC metric nameplatesYE3
ABBM2BA, M3BP and other IEC general/process-performance nameplatesYE3
WEGW22 and related IEC TEFC framesYE3
SEWDRN/DRS and geared assembliesR/F/K/S if geared; YE3 only if it is a bare IEC motor

Keep the OEM or change to JW?

  • Keep the original brand when the site standard or warranty says so
  • Change to JW YE3 when you need an IEC drop-in and IE3 is allowed
  • Stay Y2 when the spare must remain IE2
  • Do not “upgrade” poles or mounting just because the brand changes

JW series (only the ones this question needs)

  • YE3 — default IE3 replacement
  • Y2 — IE2 like-for-like
  • R/F/K/S — helical gearmotor

What “brands” does not mean here

  • Not a ranking of consumer or EV brands
  • Not a claim that 1LE equals a JW part number
  • Not a catalogue of Siemens/ABB spare kits

FAQ

Are Siemens, ABB, WEG and JW interchangeable?

They can share IEC 60072-1 shaft height, so a same-H YE3 often bolts down. Shaft diameter, flange vs feet, poles and kW still have to match. JW does not sell those brands’ spare parts.

Which brand should I put on a new OEM spec?

For a new machine, specify IEC class (usually IE3), kW, poles, mounting and duty—not a logo. YE3 is JW’s usual general-purpose answer.

What about SEW?

Many SEW nameplates are gearmotors (DRN/DRS). Those map to R/F/K/S, not a bare YE3.

Do I need the original brand for a spare?

Only if the site standard says so. Otherwise send the nameplate photo and we quote Y2 or YE3 in the matching IEC frame family.
