Motors for Wind Turbine Auxiliary Systems

Wind turbines run on more than a generator. Yaw, pitch, nacelle cooling, hydraulic pumps and lubrication use IEC three-phase motors — the machines JWMotor builds every day. For a typical S1 auxiliary we quote YE3 (IE3). On a VFD we quote YVF2. With a brake, YEJ. If the plate is a helical gearmotor, R/F/K/S.

Match kW, poles (so yaw and pitch speed stay the same), voltage, frequency, and B3/B5/B35 from the installed nameplate. Cold, humidity and inverter cable length go on the enquiry so we can tropic-proof or inverter-rate the winding when the leaflet row is not enough.

Send the nameplate photo and the duty (yaw, pitch, fan or pump) to contact JWMotor. Special voltage, flange or shaft is a custom quote, not a closed door.

At a glance

What we quote

Yaw, pitch, cooling and pump motors as IEC TEFC — YE3, YVF2, YEJ, R/F/K/S.

How we pick the series

S1 → YE3; VFD → YVF2; brake → YEJ; geared plate → R/F/K/S.

What you send

Nameplate kW, poles, V, Hz, frame, mounting, and the duty on the turbine.

How to specify a wind-site auxiliary

  • Name the duty: yaw, pitch, cooling fan, hydraulic pump, lubrication
  • Copy kW, poles, voltage, frequency, frame from the plate
  • Brake on the motor → YEJ; gearbox on the plate → R/F/K/S
  • VFD on the motor → YVF2
  • General S1 three-phase, no brake → YE3 (or Y2 if the spare must stay IE2)

On the turbine

Yaw and pitch

These drives often combine a motor, brake and gearbox on a VFD. We quote YEJ, R/F/K/S and YVF2 from kW, poles, flange and brake torque on the plate.

Nacelle fans and pumps

Many are ordinary S1 TEFC machines. YE3 is the usual first quote in the same IEC frame family when the site can move to IE3.

Custom winding

Odd voltage, mounting or a missing leaflet rating is still an order path. We design around your plate.

FAQ

Do you supply motors for wind turbines?

Yes — IEC auxiliaries on the turbine: yaw, pitch, cooling, hydraulics and lubrication. We quote YE3, YVF2, YEJ or R/F/K/S from the nameplate.

Which series for yaw or pitch?

Brake on the motor → YEJ. Helical gearmotor → R/F/K/S. Inverter on the motor → YVF2. Bare TEFC S1 → YE3 (Y2 if the spare must stay IE2).

Can a nacelle fan take a YE3?

Often, when H, shaft, kW, poles, volts and mounting match. Confirm shaft diameter and whether the old machine was inverter-duty (then YVF2).

What should I send?

Nameplate photo (kW, V, Hz, poles or r/min, frame, IE), a side shot of feet or flange and the shaft, and whether the duty is yaw, pitch, fan or pump.

What if we need a generator or a special OEM motor?

Tell us on the form. We quote custom IEC auxiliaries (voltage, mounting, tropicalisation) from your plate. A MW generator is a different machine — we still take the site’s IEC motor enquiry.

Stock or custom

If this is not a JW stock leaflet motor, we still quote custom windings, voltages, mountings and special duty. Write voltage and frequency (and whether the supply is single-phase or three-phase), kW or hp, speed or poles, foot or flange, and attach a nameplate photo.
